shadow play

The things I do ...

shadow shadow

Every year, around the end of January, I’m beginning to feel that winter should be over soon.
So I start going out, cutting little boughs from bushes and putting them in a vase and in a warm room.
A few weeks later they start to sprout and bloom.
It’s a bit like 'Barbara branches' but without the Christmas and with a bit less symbolism. Whereas I think fertility, life and hope are still there.
Every evening they to these great shadow plays:

I stop cutting branches when I’m feeling nature has cought up with my expectations, which is around nowish ...

Last Sunday

Taking a bus ride across the swabian hinterland into the Black Forest to get some antibiotics for my sick boyfriend is really not the way I wanted to spend last Sunday but I got no vote in this.

There is but one thing you have on this journeys, and tha’s landscape.
Youŕe sitting in the bus, just looking outside - and landscape happens. It’s still all very brown and dry and dead ... but once in a while there is a cluster of yellow or violet spring-crocus, quite alone in the world ... and if you tilt your head to the left and if you squinny a bit and if your try really hard you can just imagine to be somewhere on the Balkan Peninsula, with the wind and the steppe ...

Inspriation is a funny thing.

I’m drawing again. I’m afraid there are no pictures for you yet.
But you have Mr. Tulip who will be joining you this evening.

art noveau

I’m deeply in love with art nouveau. It feels like ... home.
I don’t know if itś just me or do you have similar feelings about a particular period of art?

When I’m looking at art nouveau paintings or sculptures, by Aubrey Beardsley, Alphonse Mucha, or Auchentaller ... I have this peculiar feeling of ... coming home. Something deep in me responds strongly to these ornamental, floral designs, full of symbolic Importance and longing ... it feels right. True, good and beautiful.

And right now I’m feeling the strong need to go and paint some flowery squiggles in the bedroom ...

New Header

I’ve changed the header. So there’s at least ONE dragon on the blog.

Of course thats not what the title represents, but you know ...
... just to be sure.
I needed a new header anyway. And it’s fun to play around with Inkscape.

So whats that Anderswelt-thingy anyway?

It all started back in 2006 at the anual Thing of the German Tolkien Society.
It took place at the count’s castle Diez. (which is a really beautiful building) where there are lots and lots of tiny, litle Drawings of Fairytale Creatures hidden all over the builing, so you could wander from room to room searching for all those little treasures.

Here are a few pictures of some of them:

Three years later I decided that I wanted the same for my rooms.
That’s how the Project Anderswelt 1.0 was born and it was a huge success.
Today I’ve got a new flat, I’ve killed (almost) all of the pictures, and I’m ready to start anew.
Sadly my flat isnt ready yet, so you will have to wait a few weeks before there are any NEW roommates – but there are a lot of OLD ones I will show you soon.

Aufbruch

Sie verlassen nun bekannte Gewässer - here be dragons

Farn

Ach ja: Ich möchte diesen Blog auf Englisch verfassen, habe mir für die ersten Einträge aber doch noch Deutsch gewählt ...
