'Goldener Oktober' revisited

Well, it’s November now, and cold and snow and yukky,
but not so long ago it was still October, warm, sunny and dry.

Update on the Gladden Fields

Finished another section a couple of weeks ago, but was to busy to write about it.
But here it is!
Number four. Only two more to go. (and maybee a couple of butterflies and suchlike thereafter ... )

crane

What do you think? Looks great, doesn’t it?

Panel 4 in detail:

I like how I managed to squeeze the whole panel into the remaining bathroom-space and it still looks ok.

My dear ...

... readers,
if I didn’t know better I would think you are nonexistent.
But I know. I know you are out there.

Feel free to say something once in a while.

...

Come to think of it: better type it.
Makes me happy. Makes you happy.

It’s that time of the year again - a giveaway

read

This is an old halloween tradition reaching back ’till 2010 when it was invented by one of my all-time-favorites Neil Gaiman.

Maybe you have never heard of this thing ... best to let neilhimself to the explaining:

So this Halloween I will give the first person to say "pretty please" a scary book from my bookshelf.
No, you don’t get to choose which one, that’s part of the scary.
It will be a book that I have not read. - I’ve read other things by this author and I intend to read something from him sometime in the future. It will be a german translation - and no, thats NOT the scary part.

Maybe there will be candy to. But it will be hidden in a book because a book is like candy for the mind.

So, please comment if you want candy a new book.

Are you giving any books?
Which books do you give?
Which books would you want to get?

We call this 'Goldener Oktober'

Have you looked at the forests lately?
Beautiful! All these colours, cascading from yellow to red, with the occasional green in between.

It’s soooo .... ! I could sit and look outside for hours!
Actually ... I did that a lot during the last days.
Sitting in the Ice-train, listening to some Tori Amos song, looking outside, gazing at the landscape...

I crossed the 'Schwäbische Alb' a couple of times last week, and every time I was absolutely stunned by spectacle outside. This is what we, here in Germany, call Indian Sum 'Goldener Oktober'.

I just can’t understand why most people are more interested in what happens on their mobiles than in what happens in the world...

Sitting happily in the fridge looming over the cheese

I want to introduce to you a new project of mine.
It’s got nothing to do with painting or colours ... but a lot of creativity will be involved - and a lot of sugar too.

Those of you who have known me for a few years may have noticed my
  • love of baking experiments
  • fascination for traditional christmas cakes overflowing with dried fruit
  • forays into a vegan lifestyle
If you combine all of these aspects you create a critical mass which you can trigger by throwing a baking book into it.

In this case was Cakes from around the World by Julie Duff which did the trick.

I found a recipe for a 'Caribbean Rum Fruit Cake' calling for
450g currants
450g raisins and
250g sultanas among various other dries fruits, spirits - and 9 eggs.

I’ll be trying to substitute the eggs with ... something (I’m thinking apple pulp or pumpkin, but I’m not really sure ... ).

If you have any experiences in this area and/or can recommend any books/webpages/communities - please let me know. I will happily read/listen to anything you may suggest

For the cake - which will be readdy on christmas day - you do a fruit mix which will quite happily sit in the fridge for 2 or 3 month
needing only the occational stir.

This is what it looks by now:

I’m sure it’s planing to take over the fridge.

On a personal note:
I started this blog with the intention to keep it strictly to my paintings (wall, paper and otherwise).
But my interests are so widly spread, my inspiration so diverse and there are so many other things - besides painting - which I want to tell you, which I think might interest you ...

What I don’t want to do is a look-what-happend-to-me-today - diary, I just want to tell things someone might benefit from.

Any thoughts? Please tell me.

.:.

On another personal note:
I hate to post so irregular. I was planing to post every few days, but - the bit BUT - It’s just not working. I just don’t find the time, the means, the content ... so please forgive me if there are times when you have to wait for me to say something.
It’s just like in real life.

My dear ...

... inhabitants of the Black Forest,
you have really, really great landscape, enough to last several lifetimes, apple trees everywhere and sheep that are nosy and do not go 'baaah' quite as often as one would fear.
Thumbs up!

But honestly ... do you really think you can call 'sausage in a bun' and 'onion pie with bacon' a good provision of food?
If you do not want to go for anything meat-free, why not offer cake (which comes naturally without meat) and coffee!?!

The 21st century will eventually catch up even with you, I hope.
